I can relate best to the educational aspect ...
Bruce, Saskatchewan
Drawn to SSND Association
When Carol and I were searching for a spiritual support group after we completed the Lay Formation Program, S. Harriet invited us to “come and see” what the SSND Associate program was like. S. Harriet had impressed me with her personal warmth, unconditional acceptance and encouragement to move out of my comfort zone. When we pursued the SSND Associate Program, we discovered that S. Harriet was a shining example of the charism of Mother Theresa which is alive as well in all SSNDs that we met.
Charism
I can relate best to the educational aspect of Mother Theresa’s charism. A key part of my job is to introduce new technology and new ways of doing things. I have discovered that proper education is the key element whenever change is introduced. I’ve also discovered that with all change, whether large or small, there are growing pains and one must always be patient and accepting of people where they are in the process.
I have also seen how we, as educators, have made a difference. Carol and I present a reflective evening on the beatitudes for RCIA. Often these people have not experienced this kind of presentation and they are pleasantly surprised and eager to experience more of this style of learning.
Support
I have found in the SSND Associate program a support structure to help me with my own spiritual development and a group of people who are accepting of me as I am. They encourage me to grow into what I am meant to become. I, in turn, try to offer this same support to the others in the group. I recovenant each year because the SSND Associate program is as life-giving now as when we first joined.
Perspective
Being an associate gives me a perspective on life that affects my relationships and my work. The sisters and other associates bring a wealth of lived experience to us and so broaden our perception of the world.
