I am always renewed and refreshed ...
Theresa Harvey, Ontario
Roots
Even before entering grade school, I was aware of SSND. My parents helped the sister from our parish (Holy Family, Hamilton) in any way they could. My mother worked with Sister Zita on the bake sales at the fall picnic. The Sisters I encountered in lower school and then high school at the Academy were a great influence in my life and remained my friends. When S. Rose Freiburger told me of the new concept of association with SSND, I was most eager to be involved and help to start the program in Canada . It was a natural progression of my contact with these caring, intelligent, progressive and loving women.
Vision
Blessed Theresa was a woman of vision, nerve and sensitivity. For the era in which she lived, she was a true pioneer pushing for the rights of women and children. Her insight of how to deal with the hierarchy was remarkable. And all was done with love and respect for the greater glory of God.
Bond
I am always renewed and refreshed to be in the company of the other associates. There is a special bond between us, and the relationship with so many SSNDs whom I had not known before continues to increase my love of this congregation.
Perspective
I see the volunteering I do differently now that I am an SSND Associate. At this stage in my life, I am not able to do any great works to help those with whom I am in contact. Through the writings of Blessed Theresa, I have learned that many small things can help to bring a change in the lives of others. It is often a small act to one person that leads him or her to greater good acts to others.
