We have heard the cry of our world.
Although precious and beautiful in God's design,
the earth and its peoples exist today
in a fragile, divided, and fragmented condition.

THE EARTH CHARTER
We SSNDs commit ourselves to study, reflect on and act out of the Earth Charter.
WHAT IS THE EARTH CHARTER?
First drafted in 1992, the charter is the product of a decade-long, worldwide, cross-cultural dialogue about common goals for the earth and shared values. It is a people's treaty, setting forth the hopes and aspirations of an emerging global civil society.
The Four Principles of the Earth Charter
- Respect and Care for the Community of Life
- Ecological Integrity
- Social and Economic Justice
- Democracy, Non-violence, and Peace
From the Preamble to the Charter:
We stand at a critical moment in Earth's history, a time when humanity must choose its future. As the world becomes increasingly interdependent and fragile, the future holds great peril and great promise. We are one human family and one Earth community with a common destiny.
