1. When do families register?
Starting in April notices to parents for parish bulletins and current registration forms are made available to parishes. It is hoped students will be registered no later than August 31 so that they can start their courses and follow the time-line that is provided with each program. However, families also register at other times of the year for a variety of reasons.

2. Is it possible to register on line?
Registration forms for both centres are available on this web site in both pdf and Word format.
Please note that registration is not complete until payment is received. At this time our website is not set up to receive payment on-line. Please mail your cheque to the appropriate centre with a note that the registration form was emailed.
For those living in the Waterloo Deanery, simply fill out a form and email it to Sister Betty Lackenbauer: bettyssnd@gto.net. Those living in the Brant, Grey-Bruce, Guelph and Hamilton-Wentworth deaneries email the form to Sister Kathleen Haley: catechetics@ssndcanadian.org.

3. What is the cost of the course?
Presently we are holding this fee at $40.00 per course. Families who register more than two children pay no more than $90.00. Some parishes try to help families who are financially strapped; parents need to inquire. Ordinarily, payment of courses is made before they are sent out.

4. Is the course monitored by you, or is it based on the honour system?
We check the lessons, keep track of how well students are doing, and if they are doing poorly we inform parents directly or through the parish coordinator (if the parish has one). Parish secretaries, too, are very helpful in communicating with parents. Catechists make an effort to motivate students. They also offer suggestions to parents who play a great role in motivating their children. Most students do amazingly well because the answers are always found in whatever chapter the student is studying.

5. Upon completion, what is the next step?
When students have completed a course, they receive a certificate from us. Periodically, we send a Student Progress Report to the Pastor. This is especially important for students preparing to receive First Reconciliation/First Eucharist or Confirmation. Most parishes insist that students complete their courses prior to the reception of these sacraments.

6. Does the parish receive notice of completion of courses?
The Progress Reports that are sent to the pastors indicate this, but students with certificates and completed work can also do a little show-and-tell with their pastor. Students love to share the affirming comments they receive from their assigned catechist.

7. Are there courses for older students who are asking for the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation?
The coordinators at each of our Centres will help provide the courses required. There are a few options, depending on the age of the person and whether or not there are special needs.

8. Are adults allowed to register?
Yes. Adults are registering for courses because they want to update their faith in order to better help their children. Some people have been away from the church for a time and want to become active Catholics again. There may be other reasons, too.
