THE FORMER NOTRE DAME ACADEMY (1927-1983)
The Notre Dame Motherhouse at one time housed Notre Dame Academy which offered high school education for "day hops" (day students) and for boarders from as far away as Mexico, the West Indies, South America and Hong Kong.
Until the local Catholic school was built in 1951, elementary school children also attended classes at Notre Dame.
Although the Academy closed it doors in 1983, many former students maintain contact with their NDA teachers. In 2002 and again in 2007 there was an opportunity to get together formally at reunions.
Here are a few comments from former students who attended the 2002 reunion.
“... my precious Notre Dame, where I was given stability and security and the very roots of faith.”
- Class of '50
“Above all, Notre Dame Academy was and will always be - a state of mind, heart, and spirit for those who were privilged to be part of it.”
- Class of '78
“My five years there meant a well-rounded education in the company of women from around the world. I was fortunate to be exposed to different cultures, languages and religions which helped give me an open-minded world view. While stressing academic excellence, Notre Dame Academy in Waterdown also encouraged development of the whole person.”
- Class of '82
