The School Sisters of Notre Dame have answered a call for women to make a difference in the world ... and we are making a difference.

Education

The School Sisters of Notre Dame are educators.  For us, education means enabling persons to reach the fullness of their potential, helping them develop a global vision based on Christian values. We believe that the education of the individual is the most effective way to transform the world.

Initially the congregation focused on teaching children and young women in Catholic schools; today our ministries have evolved keeping pace with the needs of our times. Our ministries focus on education in schools at all grade levels, in parish work, social service, justice and peace work, spiritual direction and counselling, and the ministry of prayer and presence.

Community

Integrated into our ministry is our call to live community.  Community life is more than just living together; it is a giving and receiving of support, love and acceptance.

Sisters strive to live a balanced life: ministry, prayer, community life and recreation are all important

Our love for our sisters around the world impells us to grow in our understanding and appreciation of different cultures and the ways we can support our sisters in different countries.

Currently, we have Canadian province Sisters ministering in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, the Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan, as well as in Africa, England, Italy, Peru and the United States.

Learning to live and work effectively and in peace is important to us.

Prayer

A quiet moment for prayer.

Within this community we are women of prayer.  Prayer is the heart and source of our union with God.  Prayer, alone and together, brings focus to our personal and community life.

S. Celeste educating about global issues.
S. Martin de Porres celebrates with the people of Peru among whom she ministers
S. Maureen is a language resource teacher in a Southern Ontario school
S. Vivian is headmistress of a girls secondary school in Kenya.
Each year we gather to discuss where we as a community will focus our energies, such as which social justice issues we will study and educate others about.
