Sister Lorraine Collins
Ontario

After many years in formal education as a teacher and principal, I am now a pastoral assistant at St. Clement's parish. This ministry involves sacramental preparation with our schools, taking communion to shut-ins and coordinating parish programs. A major part involves coordinating our RCIA process each year.

Knowing that no one person has all the gifts, I welcome opportunities to collaborate with the paster, the RCIA team and the many willing volunteers who contribute to the functioning of the parish. Working together brings the most benefits to the parish at large.

Working in a parish and witnessing the deep faith of parishioners, the yearning of RCIA candidates to deepen their relationship with God, and the dedication of parents in very trying situations gives a boost to my own spiritual life.

It is a challenge at times to stay optimistic when I see parents bring their children to First Communion and then, seemingly, abandon them faithwise when the ceremony is over.

All told, I love my ministry as an SSND, especially the variety of ministries involved. I believe Blessed Theresa's charism/spirit is reflected in my ministry as I help others develop their potential for spiritual growth and leadership in our Church.

Each year we gather to discuss where we as a community will focus our energies, such as which social justice issue we want to learn about and educate about. We also spend time catching up on each others lives and celebrating milestone anniversaries.
S. Vivian is headmistress of a girls secondary school in Kenya.
